Report: Round 4 of NSW Hillclimb Championship

Well, the drive to Kempsey (well Cooperabung to be precise) was as uneventful as a trip up the F3 and Pacific highway can be and I arrived at the hillclimb track around 1pm. After seeing cars lining up at the base of a hill, I realised that this was going to be one scary ride, the cars were racing off towards a tight right kink and disappearing around a corner.

After that session finished I was able to drive up the course myself to the pit area and was pretty taken aback as to how daunting the track was - tight, blind and FAST.

JSCC Eastern Creek Gymkhana Training Day - Saturday 3 December 2011

E-mail Print

UPDATE - 26.11.2011 - Pre registration has closed as the event has been filled.

JSCC is holding an Eastern Creek Gymkhana Training Day - Saturday 3 December 2011

A "gymkhana" is a motorsport event that tests a drivers car and their skills in negotiating a small course set out on a flat sealed or unsealed surface. JSCC has chosen Eastern Creek's wet concrete skidpan for this purpose, as it is the premier autotest venue in NSW, probably Australia.

Each 'test' requires the driver to start and finish in a 'garage' and not hit any 'markers' on the way around the course or take a 'wrong direction', as both of these errors incurs a time penalty. Ultimately you want to find the fastest way around a test, in particular by using the handbrake or throttle to 'rotate' the car around a marker.

Each test takes 30-40 seconds to complete and your time for each run is recorded on the timing sheet that you will carry with you in your car. For an idea of the *possible* tests we might be running on the day, please check out the CAMS Motorkhana Handbook - don't worry, it is a training day so we wont make you do some of the really complicated ones!

As this will be a timed event, you will need to have a CAMS licence and be a CAMS car club member, with JSCC members given priority.  In addition, CAMS L1 day licences will also be available (please contact us for details!) Please email completed entry forms to the Secretary.

Pre-registration is now closed as the event has been filled.

Please let us know if you wish to take pictures or footage of the event as a non-competitor so we can provide you with further details.

Round 8 - NSW Supersprints - Eastern Creek

E-mail Print

Report by Tony, Contributors Eddie, Danny, & Kieran, JSCC members

Round 8 saw a massive turn out of JSCC competitors at the Eastern Creek supersprint. It was sure to be a fun day of competition and hanging out with 8 cars entered and many others dropping by to take photos and have a chat - there was even time for a quick lunch at Macca's!  But it's the cars that bring us all together and the broad spectrum of track animals, weekend weapons and daily drivers were up to whip out some cracking lap times. Some of us are calling it the round of broken PB's.

Round 9 - NSW Supersprints - Wakefield season final

E-mail Print

Event report by Tony, JSCC member

The supersprint championship's last round was held at Wakefield in blistering spring sun.  Most classes already had the championship decided and JSCC members Nelson and Tony placed 1st and 2nd in their respective classes.  The day was just a matter of finishing the season with a fun and relaxed day out.

Throughout the year around 14 JSCC members have hit the circuit by attending the supersprints. Many were new faces with and without previous track experience and cars of all levels of modification.  If your car is reliable and your keen to start hitting the track but don't know where to start, make sure you contact someone in JSCC.

Round 7 - NSW Supersprints - Eastern Creek

Report by Tony, JSCC member

JSCC managed to have 4 cars at Eastern Creek for Round 7 of the NSW state supersprints. Race day Sunday turned on perfect track conditions of mild temps, dry track and sunshine after weather forecasts throughout the week of rain. Nelson, Eddie, Benny and Tony were out to make the most of it. Special mention should go out to all the supporters that came down to say hi as well as take photos - I lost count but there must have been more than 20 people that dropped by to chat.

Round 6 - NSW Supersprints - Wakefield Park

Report by Tony, JSCC member

After a short two week break JSCC was back at Wakefield Park for Round 6 of the NSW State Supersprint Championship.  Representing the JSCC club were the cars of Nelson (Integra DC2), Daniel (Civic EK), and myself (Celica).  The FIFA World Cup had just started one week ago and this explained two things. First, there were fewer competitors than normal - only about 77 entrants.  Secondly, Nelson rocking up somewhat late after watching a live early morning football match and missing scrutineering!  Luckily, the Chief Scrutineer was happy to check over Nelson's class championship leading car.

Round 5 - NSW Supersprints - Wakefield Park

E-mail Print

Report by Tony, JSCC member

Sydney's 3 consecutive weeks of rain and gloomy weather made the 2 hour drive to sunny Goulburn worth the effort.  Darkness was replaced by morning sunlight over the Hume Highway revealing clear skies. Race numbers were stuck onto the cars, Dorian lap timers attached, and road tyres swapped for semi slicks... all in preparation for some sunny autumn Wakefield track time.

JSCC managed to fit the cars of Nelson (Integra DC2), Eddie (Integra DC5), and myself (Celica) in 3 adjacent garages. Daniel (Civic EK) arrived a little late but luckily found a spare garage.  The JSCC regulars Nelson and myself were introduced to Eddie and Daniel for the first time and helped them out with the "paperwork" of scrutineering and drivers briefing.  Although Eddie and Daniel were newbs to supersprinting, both have done track days at Wakey before as well as some Ian Luff driver training. Lap times later showed that these guys are fast!

Round 4 - NSW Supersprints - Eastern Creek

E-mail Print

Report by Tony Chan, JSCC member

New photos added courtesy of Che

The early morning queue at the Eastern Creek gates started to grow amidst fog and the smell from the nearby (garbage tip) facilities. Fergus (Honda Integra Type R DC2) and I (Toyota Celica) wasted no time in getting a bunch of carports and doing the ritual semi-slick tyre swap to our cars. We weren't really sure who else from JSCC would turn up, but Nelson (Honda Integra Type R DC2), Ricky (Subaru STi), Leon (Honda Integra Type R DC5) and Kieran (Nissan 350Z) all turned up soon after to also compete.
